Sam Pearson Plaque 45

The Pearson worldwide enterprise began with Scholes' resident Sam Pearson who founded his first company in 1844. Originally a drystone waller, he is reputed to have built the wall by the A58 road from Halifax to Leeds. Sam Pearson's business expanded into publishing, oil, engineering and even Madame Tussauds. He lived all his life in Scholes village and died in 1886 at his house The Elms on Scholes Lane(pictured below), just across the road from The Walkers Arms (above).
