Liversedge Sparrow Park

The Society in 2011 has embarked on its most challenging project ever.

A small area of waste ground at the junction of Knowler Hill and Halifax Road is being converted into a high quality mini-park. This £82,000 scheme is costing just under £20,000 because all the work taking place is being done by volunteers - mostly members of the Society.

The stone wall to Halifax Road is set to become a landmark feature in its own right when in April 2012 the word "Liversedge" in large metal letters is fastened to the wall. An information panel about the history of Liversedge will also be placed on site and a seat will be completed. All the materials for this scheme are being paid for by the Veolia Environmental Trust from landfill tax funds.

In April 2012 the site will dramatically host a public art feature, namely a statue to commemorate the Rising of the Luddites in Liversedge in 1812 and the role of the croppers. [See the page on Luddites]. This statue is being paid for by the Kirklees Area Committee and has been commissioned by the Society from Xceptional Designs of Barton on Humber.
